OCR for AnyDoc® includes the support of the archive standard PDF/A in the standard solution price
Slough, UK — November 25, 2008 — AnyDoc Software eliminates hidden costs that make document capturing and processing solutions of other providers more expensive. The support of various output formats including PDF/A, for which most manufacturers charge an extra fee, is included in the standard solution price of OCR for AnyDoc® — an all-in-one package instead of an a la carte technique.
For some time now, PDF/A as an output format has been one of the demands that customers make on data capture and archive solutions. Numerous discussion forums at trade fairs, PDF/A conferences and competence centres are proof of this increasing demand. As early as September 2005, the PDF/A format standard ISO 19005-1 was adopted for the long-term archiving of electronically created documents. Options such as full text search distinguish PDF/A from other archiving formats and explain its increasing popularity. Many companies are now successfully using PDF/A for documents in incoming post, bookkeeping, in digitizing personnel and patient records, credit or claims files, and various documents in the legal sector.
“Although PDF/A has practically become the standard checklist criterion in the selection of a DMS or ECM solution, very few providers offer support as part of the standard solution price,” explains Dr. Rainer Czech, sales manager at AnyDoc Software Deutschland. “This charging ‘bit by bit’ means that a would-be cost-efficient solution often ends up being considerably more expensive than expected. When selecting a solution, companies really need to pay attention to which features are being charged in addition to the standard price. At AnyDoc Software, we have always placed great emphasis on price transparency. For us, it is a matter of course that PDF/A be included in the standard price of OCR for AnyDoc. Likewise, output formats like JPEG, simple PDFs, full text PDFs or TIFFs are included in the standard solution price,” Czech continued.
Thousands of companies around the world depend on AnyDoc Software’s solutions to automatically process paper documents and extract incoming data. The solution saves companies the effort of having to manually enter the data, accelerating profit and productivity and improving the quality of data and business processes. The graphical user interface and intelligent search functions make the software particularly user-friendly.
“Time and time again, customers are surprised and enthusiastic about the innovative strength AnyDoc lends to their solutions in terms of flexibility and user-friendliness. The experience gained from thousands of projects for over 3,000 customers has led AnyDoc to incorporate many functions into their standard solutions for document classification or incoming post management. Other providers would need to supply costly customizing services to accomplish this. Moreover, this means that we can offer cost-effective intelligent and innovative package solutions,” adds Czech.
About PDF/A
The PDF/A standard ISO 19005-1, a format standard for the long-term archiving of electronically created documents, was adopted in September 2005. As a contained version of PDF, PDF/A is a standardised profile for using PDF for long-term archiving. The standard stipulates in detail which contents are permitted and which ones are not. These and other specifications guarantee that the documents can be read on a permanent basis – regardless of the application software and operating system used to create them. Experts predict that – thanks to the ISO standardisation – the PDF/A format will quickly gain in importance and replace the TIFF format, e.g. due to the full text search function.
