TAMPA, Fla. – June 12, 2002 – Microsystems Technology has been named as a finalist for the prestigious RealWare Awards program presented by CMP Media.
The RealWare Award recognizes outstanding customer applications demonstrating innovative IT solutions and measurable business benefits for the intelligent enterprise. To be considered for this award, a product must solve real-world business problems, yet provide long-term strategic advantages.
Microsystems was named as one of four finalists for its OCR for Forms™ installation with service bureau Dakota Services. OCR for Forms is Microsystems’ award-winning automated document and data capture software. Utilizing OCR for Forms, and its remote verification feature, Dakota Services automatically scans and extracts the data from pharmaceutical sample forms at their headquarters in Pennsylvania while Dakota employees perform the data verification at their offices in Bombay and New Delhi, India.
Dakota Services customer-base represents more than one quarter of the pharmaceutical sales representatives in the U.S. On average, Dakota processes more than 300,000 documents weekly. Dakota Services President, Bob Neubert says “We have our people here in Hatfield, Pennsylvania scan in the documents during our work day and overnight we have two shifts working in India to verify all the batches. All the work is then returned to us electronically before we come in the next morning. Every paper document, all the software and the controls remain here in our main office. It never has to leave the building.” By utilizing remote verification and automation, Dakota's customers receive up to 75% in cost savings as opposed to processing the paperwork themselves. "One of our clients has reported a $1.8 million savings and that's a good example of the type of results to be had," says Neubert.
By locating the verification staff overseas and utilizing remote verification, Dakota Services is able to take advantage of a 30%-50% reduction in the total cost of their data capture. OCR for Forms’ remote verification feature works between floors, across the street and, as Dakota Services uses it, halfway around the world. OCR for Forms is available via Microsystems Technology’s authorized reseller channel.
Winners will be announced later this month. For a complete list of finalists visit www.realwareawards.com. A complete case study of Dakota Services is available on the Microsystems web site at
